The trees are blossoming, the birds are singing, and the interior of our car is obnoxiously hot after being in the grocery store for 20 minutes. Yes, that means spring is here! In Hampton Roads, we are lucky enough to have endless activities that pair perfectly with warm weather. You can go from spending a leisurely afternoon on one of our many white sand beaches to happy hour and an awesome concert in town.

To help get you up and moving, here’s a top 10 list of things to do near you in Hampton Roads this week!


May 1: Laugh with Amy Shumer

Want to laugh until your stomach hurts? Well then, catch Amy Schumer live at the Hampton Coliseum. It will be a night you won’t forget! Dare we say, it’ll be a Trainwreck?


May 2: Visit Galapagos in 3D

Dive into the Galapagos waters and see what lies beneath with Galapagos 3D at the Mariners’ Museum in Newport News!


May 3: A Pirate Story

Ahoy, matees! If you’re looking for buried treasure, head over to the Suffolk Center for Cultural Arts and watch The Greatest Pirate Story Never Told! Walk the plank with these scoundrels while enjoying some of Hampton Roads’ great community theatre.


May 4: Rock Out with Pennywise

Pennywise will be performing three of their albums in full at Peabody’s Nightclub at the Virginia Beach Oceanfront. Come out and enjoy some drinks while rocking out to this California band!


May 5: What’s Cuter Than A Puppy Party?

Happy Cinco de Mayo! Join Norfolk in celebration with an extra special Cinco de Mayo festival in Town Point park. It’s Puppy de Mayo, so invite your furry friends to compete in the Best Dressed competition! Cinco de Mayo festivities will also be happening all up and down Colley Avenue in Norfolk.


May 6: Enchanted By Otters

Celebrate 50 years of the Virginia Living Museum with an enchanted evening of aerial feats, inspiring animals, fabulous entertainment, fine dining, and a live auction at the Enchanted Otter Masque. Black Tie with mask encouraged for this golden event for a great cause!

May 6: Local Comedy’s Greatest Hits

Skeletons in the Closet At Push Comedy Theatre is a look inside the Pushers’ comedy vault. Each month, they dig through their closet and pull out some hits, misses, and sketches that (for whatever reason) have not yet been performed. Fill your night with laughs this weekend at Push Comedy Theatre!


May 7: Celebrate Our Place In The Stars

Happy International Space day! Join the Virginia Air and Space Center on a day that is out of this world. View the Sun up-close and personal via Sun Telescope and their new exhibit SOLARIUM.


May 7: Paint The Town NEON

End your night with some neon art and live music. Work|Release’s exhibit of “writing lightly” will be coming to a close–as send off, they will have a live performance from The Lady Comes First. Feel the pulse of NEON, the new Norfolk Arts District this weekend!


May 8: Be Adventurous On Mother’s Day

Happy Mothers Day! Treat your mom to an adventure at York River State Park, and spend the day on the water fossil-hunting. Mother’s Day Surf & Turf is a ranger-guided program that involves a canoe/kayak trip on Taskinas Creek and a journey to Fossil Beach to search for prehistoric relics. Mom paddles free with a paid guest!
