There are award winning golf courses in Newport News and Hampton, Virginia that will provide you a challenge, or just give you an enjoyable day outside. They boast beautiful rolling greens during the spring and summer and perfect weather conditions in the fall.

Between the two cities, there are 4 public courses that provide 99 exciting fairways and greens to test your skills.

Newport News Golf Club at Deer Run is the largest course between the two cities hosting 36 holes of Championship golf. They have the well-known Deer Run Championship Course (7,206 yards) and the Cardinal Championship Course (6,645 yards). The Deer Run course provides heavy tree lines, privacy and an abundance of wildlife. So if your golf ball tends to makes friends with the trees often, you may want to try your luck on the Cardinal Course where you will find more open fairways. Newport News Golf Club also offers a driving range and restaurant for those who want to sharpen their skills or grab a bite after play.

Kiln Creek Golf Club was voted one of the best 5 golf courses in Virginia by Golf Digest, and home of the 8th best Par 4 in the Mid-Atlantic by Tee Time Magazine. Clocking in as a 6,972 yard par 72, Kiln Creek is a fairly open course with rolling hills and beautiful scenery, which plays well to all skill levels. They have a driving range, pro shop and restaurant on site.

The Hamptons Golf Club is a 27-hole championship course played upon Bentgrass greens. It offers 3 par 9’s that are surrounded by ornamental grass, wildflowers, wildlife and lakes. The best part about this course is that you can pick and choose between the 3 courses so it provides a diverse experience. The Hamptons has a pro shop, restaurant and driving range on site.

The Woodlands is the shortest course on the Peninsula. It is an 18-hole, 5,400 yard long course that is a regulation par 69. This is a perfect course for older golfers or players looking to get in a quick 18 holes. However, just because it is short doesn’t make it easy, as water is brought into play on 11 of the holes. The Woodlands is also the most affordable course in Newport News and Hampton.
